Lower School: Senior Kindergarten through Grade 4

Lower School begins in senior kindergarten and continues through the fourth grade. Our program is accredited by SAIS-SACS. The student-teacher ratio is 9:1, and there are approximately 250 students currently enrolled.

We have three senior kindergarten classrooms, each of which has a lead teacher as well as a qualified full-time assistant teacher. Kindergarten carries forward the meaningful play philosophy that began at Miss Lee's with numerous hands-on learning activities. Giving kindergarten students a safe, healthy and happy learning experience is of primary importance. For this reason, they dismiss earlier than Grades 1-4. Senior kindergarten dismisses at 2:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and at 1:45 pm on Wednesday. Comfortable play clothes are recommended for daily wear, and senior kindergarten students continue to eat lunch in their classrooms as in Preschool.

Grace-St. Luke's has three sections in first through fourth grade. Grades 1-8 dismiss at 3:10 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and at 2:25 on Wednesday. Students eat in the cafeteria every day, and may bring their own lunch or purchase lunch as needed. Students begin wearing uniforms in 1st grade.

School begins at 8:00 am. Students may arrive as early as 7:00 am, and may enroll in After School Care from dismissal until 6:00 pm. A variety of enrichment options are available for those who are interested.

Faculty members place a high value on academic achievement while recognizing the developmental needs of each individual child. Students in SK-4 have recess and/or PE daily. Field trips, guest speakers, annual musical performances and class partnerships are an integral part of the lower school program. A variety of athletics for children in SK-4 are offered through Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Learn more about our Lower School curriculum here.
