    What are BOOK CONVERSATIONS?

Book Conversations was a new offering to the GSL community in Fall 2006...

At Grace-St. Luke’s, we encourage our students to be life-long learners. As parents, we can model
life-long learning by reading, learning, and engaging in the acquisition of new knowledge. Book
Conversations brings together parent-peers to engage in thought-provoking information and ideas, to
have enlightening conversation to help us all be better parents and more effective supportive
partners in our child's education.

Book Notes created by our facilitator will be available to give insight into the main ideas and themes,
of the author. When a Book Note is ready for download from this site, ‘review available’ will appear in
the cell displaying the title of the book; by clicking on those words you will access a pdf document of
the review. The pdf format may be read by Adobe Reader. If you do not yet have this software in your
computer, it is a free download from the Adobe website. For quick access to it, click this icon:

*What is Parent-to-Parent?
Parent to Parent is a series of six 30-minutes DVD presentations led by Bill Oliver of The Passage Group. Mr. Oliver created these presentations after discovering he had been a "naive" parent and, consequently, one of his daughters ended up immersed in today's "toxic culture." Following presentation, parents discuss the topics presented. The discussion serves the purpose of sharing information and establishing a "community of concern" that become able to watch out for our children. Parents leave with concrete advice and parenting techniques to help incorporate this new information into their everyday lives and families. The program is open to anyone who wants to attend and strongly advised for parents of students grades 4 - 8. Sessions are offered at 8:00 and at noon for parents' convenience. Grace-St. Luke's presents this program every two of three years, as needed.
