Our NAEYC-accredited Preschool program is housed at Miss Lee's Preschool (1760 Peabody), just east of GSL Church and our other campus facilities. We have multiple Little Luker, Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten classrooms, with approximately 130 students currently enrolled.
The foundation of the Miss Lee's program is the importance of play in young children's learning. Play is the child's mechanism for interacting with the world, structuring meaning from daily experiences, and forming social bonds with peers and adults. When generous amounts of time are allocated for child-led play, in a prepared environment with carefully chosen materials, children have the opportunity to explore, examine, and enrich their understandings of themselves, others, and the world around them. Our teachers expertly establish an optimal educational environment that engages children's interests and provides a solid foundation for future learning. There is no dress code at GSL for Preschool students; clothes that are comfortable to play in are recommended. Students may arrive as early as 7:00 am, and may enroll in our After School Care (ASC) program to stay from 3:00 until 6:00 pm if needed. Students who stay for ASC eat lunch and enjoy naptime in their classrooms, then play outside and rotate through different classroom centers during the rest of the afternoon. A variety of afternoon enrichment options, such as ballet, piano, gymnastics, art, and yoga, are also available on campus for those who are interested.
