2nd Grade

A focus on literacy continues as students enter into second grade, and teachers lead students in a variety of constructs designed to increase reading fluency and comprehension. The second grade provides a rich mathematics curriculum that promotes student learning through a spiraling curriculum that incorporates a variety of games and hands-on learning experiences. Students continue to attend special classes weekly in computer, library, visual art, music, physical education, and Spanish. Additionally, students begin attending class in the science lab to supplement the science curriculum (FOSS – Full Option Science System) used throughout the Lower School. Special second grade projects include learning about our states and U.S. president, and performing in Go Fish. An exciting addition to second grade at GSL is Skype relationships that students are developing with students in other parts of the country as part of the new social studies curriculum.
