Students are given progressively more responsibility throughout the year and can begin participating in Student Council, Honor Council, performing arts productions, and school athletics. They also begin attending regular advisories in smaller peer groups separated by gender, and they are introduced to the Middle School's Traits for Success character building program. Annual traditions include the Fifth Grade Day of Service (held in conjunction with other area schools) and JA Biztown, in which students apply for jobs and learn to work in a model city.
