Junior Kindergarten

In Junior Kindergarten, we build on the social development focus implemented in Pre-Kindergarten at GSL, with an emphasis on cooperation, independence, and responsibility. We introduce the Open Court Literacy and Handwriting Without Tears curriculum programs to build foundational reading and writing skills. Thematic units that emphasize literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies fill our days with learning. Students are able to work in pairs and independently on iPads to become familiarized with the newest technological classroom tools. In addition to Spanish, Fun and Fitness, and regular visits to the school library, JK students also enjoy a supplemental music class. We round out the experience with field trips and special guests to help introduce preschoolers to the larger community around them. A favorite annual JK tradition is the annual hunt for the Gingerbread Man, which takes them on a search for clues throughout the school campus.
