Welcome
From the Head of School
Welcome! I am delighted to introduce you to Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School. We are located in Midtown Memphis, on what many consider the most beautiful corner in Central Gardens, serving 480+ girls and boys from 18 months through 8th grade.
What characterizes the GSL community? We believe a successful educational journey depends upon our ability to work in partnership with families. Relationships are key: We enjoy working and learning and having fun together at GSL! Academic excellence is a top priority, and we believe that goes hand-in-hand with an enthusiastic emphasis on the arts and athletics. With small classes and a low teacher/student ratio, every child is known, and a variety of partnerships between grade levels give older students real leadership experiences and opportunities to serve as role models for their younger peers.
Our Episcopal worldview underscores the educational experience at GSL – welcoming all individuals and honoring the unique, inherent dignity of every human being. Students live into that identity through our Formative Five social-emotional learning program, which teaches the importance of empathy, integrity, embracing diversity, self-control, and grit ... cornerstone traits that allow for success both at GSL and beyond.
And have I mentioned our school spirit?! We proudly call ourselves Lukers for Life, and our alumni community is strong! We are excited about the future and what's next for our community.
In 2024 we celebrate an important centennial milestone – the 100th anniversary of the founding of the historic Miss Lee's campus, where our Preschool is located today. We celebrated another historic milestone – the 75th anniversary of GSL's founding – in 2022. In reflecting on our legacy, we feel immense gratitude for all the families who have supported us over the years, the outstanding teachers who have shaped GSL’s educational experience, and most of all, the amazing students who walked these halls.
The best independent schools understand the importance of honoring traditions while also adapting and evolving for the future. GSL is known for creating bright, well-rounded students who are sought after by high schools throughout the city. That’s one thing we will never change! Come visit campus, learn about our program, and experience firsthand what makes our school community special.
Go, Saints!
