Spirit Wear consists of all GSL-logo items such as t-shirts, hats, bows, specialty monogrammed items, and tech sports shirts that are NOT part of the official school uniform. It also includes sweatshirts and fleeces, which can be worn as part of the school uniform in the classroom. Spirit Wear is available for sale at selected special events throughout the year such as Back-to-School Night and the All School Picnic. Other sales will be announced in advance via the weekly Enews. GSL Spirit Wear has an online store! Items include logo T-shirts in toddler, youth, and adult sizes, and great accessories for on-the-go, home, and office. The items on the website are offered online only, but Spirit Wear will continue to have pop-up sales of fleece, sweatshirts, seasonal shirts and accessories during the school year.
Back to School Night & Volunteer Fair – August 23, 2018
This evening, adults-only event is held shortly after the start of school to acquaint families with GSL, the faculty, and student classrooms. It begins with a Volunteer Fair sign-up (5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.) in the Anchor Cafeteria plus a Spirit Wear sale and offers an overview of the various activities happening throughout the year. Everyone gathers in the church for opening remarks, before being dismissed by grade to visit classrooms and meet their children's teachers.
Box Tops for Education
GSL Parents: are you aware of the Box Tops for Education program? Did you know that each Box Top is worth $.10? Box Tops are collected between August and May and submitted three times during the academic year. Sheets, Ziploc bags, or single Box Tops are welcomed and can be delivered by your child to his or her teacher. We only ask that you label sheets and/or Ziploc bags of Box Tops with your child’s and teacher’s name. A Box Top for Education Collection Sheet can be printed off here.
Charleston Wrap - Fall Fundraiser – September 4–18, 2018
One of the P.A.’s most popular money makers (and the only fundraiser of the fall) is the Charleston Wrap sale. The Charleston Wrap sale lasts only two weeks. Stock up now for birthdays and Christmas with both wrapping paper and gifts. Ask out-of-town friends and family to shop online (www.charlestonwrap.com, school ID 11033). Fifty percent of all sales are used to fulfill teacher wish list items, so shop big, and feel good about it!
All School Picnic – October 10, 2018
The All School picnic is held in the fall at Snowden Field (GSL’s athletic field at 2233 Harbert). Food and drinks are provided. It is a great way to meet lots of families, and let your kids enjoy a school-wide community event. Spirit Wear is available for purchase (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, or Check accepted). Bring a blanket and/or chairs and enjoy!
Lower School Book Swap – October 23-25, 2018
Start cleaning off your bookshelves for the Lower School Book Swap in the Anchor Center! This is a great way to recycle gently-used children's books (no DVD's or adult books) and trade them for other books – FREE! There will be collection boxes around campus leading up to the Swap. This event culminates with our Family Reading Night for Preschool and Lower School. Come out, hear a great story, pick up a good book, and enjoy reading together.
P.A. volunteers offer support (coordinate meals, transportation, etc.) to GSL families experiencing difficulties with immediate family members. To learn more, or to request assistance, contact the Luker2Luker Chairs (contact information located on the Officers & Event Chairs page).
Teacher Appreciation – October 16, 2018 (TBA); February 7, 2019 (Luncheon); May 24, 2019 (Breakfast)
The P.A. hosts several special events to honor faculty and make them feel special. It typically consists of a soup day in the fall, when they receive the soup of their choice to take home; a luncheon in February; and a breakfast served prior to the final faculty meeting in May. (Additional gifts from individual parents are NOT expected.) Parent volunteers are needed to help watch classrooms while teachers enjoy a catered luncheon on campus during the event in February.
Italian Dinner – January 31, 2019
Join the 8th grade class and their families for an Italian Dinner feast in Trezevant and McClure Halls. A long-standing GSL tradition, proceeds go toward the 8th grade class whitewater rafting and outdoor exploration trip. Enjoy being served by your favorite GSL 8th graders – tips are appreciated! The event also features the ever popular Kids Carnival for Little Lukers through 4th graders plus a fabulous bake sale.
Trivia Night – February 8, 2019
Trivia Night brings adults together for a night of fun with trivia! Highlights include themed-tables, door prizes and a grand prize.
Father-Daughter Dance – February 22, 2019
This special night out is for all 4th-8th grade girls and their favorite father figures! The themed night of dinner and dancing is held in the Anchor Center.
Mother-Son Event – February 24, 2019
The Mother-Son event for boys in grades 4-8 is generally held the same weekend in February as the Father-Daughter dance. In years past, mother-and-son combos have gone bowling, participated in scavenger hunts, played all types of games at the Rec Room, and most recently went roller skating!
Anchor Auction – April 12, 2019 at The Children's Museum of Memphis
The Anchor Auction is the P.A.'s #1 fundraiser. This annual event is a fun adult evening complete with dinner and both a live and silent auction. Parents are encouraged to donate items such as artwork, accessories, services, parties, vacation home usage, etc. Groups of parents often bid together on one of the parties or other big items. All proceeds help fund the Teacher Wishlist to enhance classrooms and support the school. This event needs MANY volunteers, both in planning and execution
Uniform Swap – May 20, 2019 (Receiving), May 21, 2019 (Uniform Swap Sale)
The Uniform Swap is a service provided by the Parents' Association for GSL families with rising 1st through 8th graders. In May of each year, GSL families have the opportunity to exchange outgrown, gently-worn, and clean uniform pieces for replacements. First-time uniforms and/or supplemental and additional uniform items may also be purchased during the Uniform Swap. Only Lands’ End uniform items will be accepted and sold. Uniform Swap details and procedures are re-evaluated each year & will be outlined in April.
