Sharing the Good News About GSL

We are coming into admissions season, and that is always an exciting time of year at GSL. You’ll see our billboard going up out on Poplar Avenue, along with all the Facebook posts we’ve had in the last few weeks for both our Preschool Open House on November 14th and our Senior Kindergarten Open House on November 7th. Over and over again, it has been demonstrated that word of mouth is how new families learn about GSL and our wonderful community and challenging program. From time to time, people ask me, “What can I share about GSL that is helpful for new families to know?” In addition to thinking back on your experiences, I would encourage you to consider sharing the following with your friends, neighbors, and colleagues:

1. The value of being co-ed. It’s powerful for boys & girls to learn together side-by-side. It’s great preparation for what lies ahead in the future, and in Memphis, it is a distinct factor in our favor.

 2. The value of being a two-year-old through 8th grade school. It changes the whole dynamic of a school’s program and its structure. Instead of being “stuck in the middle,” our middle school students are leaders and take on many of the responsibilities that juniors and seniors do at K-12 schools. While that may seem far off to a parent of a 2 or 3-year-old, the leadership opportunities here are not to be missed.

 3. We are a whole child school. GSL strives to educate the whole child in a way that is deep and rich. We know each and every child and provide a learning environment that is safe, nurturing, and rigorous. Our students know and love their teachers and feel an incredible sense of community.

 4. The positive culture here. Students and teachers alike look forward to coming to school so they can learn and grow together. Don’t underestimate the value of the positive energy in the classrooms from Miss Lee’s through Lower School and into Middle School.

5. Last, but not least, GSL has a strong academic program that, most importantly, promotes a love of learning.  Our graduates win acceptance into not only well-regarded schools around the city, but also boarding schools across the country. They excel in academics, art, and in athletics. Teachers at high schools around Memphis can spot a “Luker” in their classroom- they are learners and leaders. They have the tools to stand out.

So this fall admission season, share the good news about GSL with your circle of friends. I hope these points are helpful to you and inspire you to share your own unique story. Word of mouth is so important to GSL, and there are so many good things to share with your friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We look forward to welcoming them to our campus and getting to know them!
