P.A. Events, 22-23
Back-to-School Night + Spirit Wear Sale & Volunteer Fair – August 24
3:00 p.m. Spirit Wear Sale; 5:30 p.m. Volunteer Fair; 6:30 p.m. Welcome in the Church followed by Classroom Visits
This evening, adults-only event is held shortly after the start of school to acquaint families with GSL, the faculty, and student classrooms. It begins with a Spirit Wear Sale (see more info on Spirit Wear below) and Volunteer Fair sign-up that gives parents an overview of the various P.A. activities happening throughout the year.
Charleston Wrap - Fall Fundraiser – September 5-22
One of the P.A.’s most popular moneymakers is the two-week Charleston Wrap sale - a great opportunity to stock up on wrapping paper and gifts. Ask out-of-town friends and family to shop online (www.charlestonwrap.com, school ID 11033). Profits from all sales are used to fulfill teacher Wish List items, so shop big, and feel great about supporting the Saints! All sales are online.
All-School Picnic – September 19
The All School picnic is held every fall at Snowden Field (GSL’s athletic field at 2233 Harbert). Food and drinks are provided. It's a great way to meet other families and enjoy a fun, school-wide community event. Spirit Wear is also available for purchase (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, or Check accepted). Bring your own blanket/chairs!
Faculty/Staff Appreciation – October 17, February 8 (Luncheon), May 24 (Luncheon)
The PA hosts several special events to honor faculty and make them feel special. It typically consists of a treat day in the fall; a luncheon in February; and a luncheon served following the final faculty meeting in May. (Additional gifts from individual parents are NOT expected.) Parent volunteers are needed to help watch classrooms while teachers enjoy a catered luncheon on campus during the event in February.
Novel. – November 6-12
Shop at novel. online with a special GSL coupon code or in store simply by telling the bookseller that you are shopping for GSL. GSL will receive 20% of the total net sales. This is a great way to support one of our local bookstores and the GSL community! Please click here for flyer you need to shop in person.
Mother-Son Event – February 25
The Mother-Son event for boys in grades 4-8 is one of our most popular events, and sometimes (but not always) held the same weekend as the Father-Daughter dance. In years past, mother-and-son combos have gone bowling, participated in scavenger hunts, held movie nights at Railgarten, and watched a Grizzlies game at FedExForum!
Trivia Event – February 11
Our annual Trivia Event brings adults together to compete as teams and see who has the best trivia knowledge! Highlights include themed tables, door prizes, and a grand prize.
Father-Daughter Dance – February 23
This special night out is for all 4th-8th grade girls and their favorite father figures! The themed night generally takes place in the Anchor Center or on the Lemaster Turf Playground.
Italian Dinner – March 21
Join the 8th grade class and their families for an Italian Dinner Meal Kit drive-thru event. A long-standing GSL tradition, proceeds go toward the 8th grade class whitewater rafting and outdoor exploration trip. This is a capstone experience for our enthusiastic 8th graders – and tips are appreciated!
Anchor Auction – April 12
The Anchor Auction is the PA's #1 fundraiser. This annual event is a fun adult evening complete with dinner and auction. Parents are encouraged to donate items such as artwork, accessories, services, parties, vacation home usage, etc. Groups of parents often bid together on one of the parties or other big items. All proceeds help fund the Teacher Wish list to enhance classrooms and support the school. This event needs MANY volunteers, both in planning and execution.
Preschool/Lower School Book Swap – May 8-10
This event is a great opportunity to recycle gently-used children's books (no DVD's or adult books) and trade them for other books – FREE! There will be collection boxes around campus leading up to the Swap.
Luker2Luker
P.A. volunteers offer support as needed throughout the year (coordinating meals, transportation, etc.) for GSL families facing a health crisis or other personal difficulties involving an immediate family member.
Spirit Wear Sales
Spirit Wear consists of all GSL-logo items such as t-shirts, hats, accessories, specialty monogrammed items, and tech sports shirts that are NOT part of the official school uniform. Other Spirit Wear items are available for sale at selected special events throughout the year such as Back-to-School Night and the All-School Picnic.
